Case Study: Julie's ring and bangle - repurposed diamonds and gemstones

My first impression of Julie and Sam was the love and respect they so clearly shared for one another.

You could tell straight away that they had found a true partner in each other, and this made working with them incredibly easy and a real pleasure.

Julie is a very sentimental person and takes great pride in the fact that her jewellery tells a story and holds real meaning. As jewellers and designers, we often become storytellers through the pieces we create for our clients, especially when it comes to the bespoke process and incorporating the people, memories and details that are most important to them.

We had previously created a stunning, one-of-a-kind necklace for Julie, and she was now ready to begin the next chapter – creating new pieces to add to both her own and her family’s collection.

During their initial visit, Sam discussed wanting to create a ring for Julie’s birthday. He made it clear from the beginning that it needed to include a very specific blue centre stone, as the colour represented something particularly meaningful to them both.

Here at The Diamond Setter, whenever a client is choosing their gemstone, we like to order a selection for them to view in person. Gemstones can look so different in photographs, and we feel it is important to see and connect with the stone before making that final decision.

As they say, a picture can paint a thousand words, and in this case it was a beautiful teal topaz that said it all. The moment Julie and Sam saw the stone, it actually brought them both to tears.

As a designer, moments like this bring me a great sense of pride. You know you aren’t simply making another piece of jewellery – you are creating something truly special that already holds so much meaning before it has even been made.
