But what happens when our professional advice is that no further repairs can be carried out? What are your options when a ring or treasured piece of jewellery is considered beyond repair?
This was a question posed by our client, Carol, when she came to us with her much-loved sapphire cluster ring. Carol adored everything about the piece – the design, the size of the stones, and the way it looked on her hand. It had simply been worn and loved for many years.
During our inspection, it became clear that the ring's shank had become extremely worn, as had the claws holding the stones in place. In fact, the wear had resulted in the central sapphire falling out of the setting. Thankfully, the stone had not been lost.
When we discussed her options for jewellery remodelling and ring restoration, it quickly became apparent that there was very little Carol wanted to change. She loved the original cluster ring design and wanted to preserve as much of its character as possible. Her only concern was that certain details of the setting might be lost if the stones were reset into a completely new mount, even if it remained a cluster design.
Every piece of bespoke jewellery we create is personal to the individual client. Even when working with a classic design such as a cluster ring, we never rely on 'off-the-shelf' settings. When restoring sentimental or heirloom jewellery or new bespoke pieces we take precise measurements.
For projects like Carol's, we create a detailed 3D scan of the original ring. This allows us to produce technically accurate renders and replicate the design as closely as possible, preserving the details that make the piece so meaningful while ensuring it can be enjoyed and worn safely for many years to come.
Our skilled workshop team then handcrafts the new ring, meticulously setting Carol's original stones into the recreated design. The end result is a faithful restoration of her treasured piece – retaining all the character she loved, with a glow-up that ensures it can be worn and enjoyed for generations to come.
