Why I Love Creating Bold Statement Jewellery

What I love most about statement jewellery is its ability to feel luxurious while still carrying emotional significance. Larger pieces naturally command attention, but when they are personalised with meaningful details, they become far more than accessories. Every charm, engraving, texture, and sculptural form can represent a memory, a loved one, or an important moment in someone’s life.

Gold and platinum work beautifully for bold jewellery because they give larger pieces a rich weight, timeless elegance, and incredible durability. Heavy chains, oversized clasps, sculptural pendants, and layered necklaces feel especially striking when crafted in precious metals designed to last for generations.

I especially enjoy creating layered necklaces and chunky charm pieces because they allow multiple stories to exist within one design. Organic shapes, substantial clasps, polished surfaces, and hand-finished textures all work beautifully together to create jewellery that feels modern, artistic, and completely individual.

One of the things that makes the pieces we create so special is the clients behind them. Recently, I had the pleasure of working with a mother and daughter who both shared a love for bold statement jewellery and sentimental charms. Together, we designed five bespoke pieces filled with personal meaning and family memories.

Creating Meaningful Statement Jewellery

The first piece we created featured a beautiful freeform initial “B” charm designed to represent a family member. I began by sketching different concepts before creating digital renders of the organic-shaped initial alongside a small number “3” charm. Once the designs were approved, both charms were handcrafted and attached to a chunky paperclip-style chain to create a necklace that felt bold, modern, and deeply personal.

We intentionally designed this necklace slightly shorter with an extender so it could be layered effortlessly with another statement necklace. Layering substantial jewellery pieces has become increasingly popular, and I love helping clients create designs that work beautifully together while still feeling unique individually.


One of a Kind Statement Jewellery with Sentimental Charms

Statement jewellery has become one of my favourite styles to create for clients who want to express their personality through bold, eye-catching pieces filled with meaning. I love designing oversized jewellery that feels luxurious, sculptural, and deeply personal — combining meaningful charms, heavy chains, organic textures, and striking silhouettes to create pieces that truly stand out. Whether it is a bold gold necklace, a platinum charm bracelet, a chunky ring stack, or an oversized pendant, statement jewellery allows every piece to become both wearable art and a reflection of the person wearing it.

At our workshop, I work closely with clients to create handcrafted statement jewellery that is completely unique to them. From the first ideas and sketches through to the finished handmade piece, every design is developed collaboratively to reflect the client’s memories, style, and individuality. Clients can discuss their ideas with myself or one of our team, and together we carefully handcraft each piece with exceptional attention to detail and craftsmanship.

 

A Custom Charm Necklace Filled with Memories

The second necklace featured a large bolt ring clasp holding three bespoke charms, each carrying its own sentimental meaning. One of the most unique charms I have worked on recently was a double-sided dog nose print charm featuring the nose prints of both of the client’s dogs. Capturing those tiny details and transforming them into wearable keepsakes turned something deeply personal into a striking statement feature within the necklace.

The second charm featured a panda illustration originally drawn by a family member. I carefully extracted and refined the artwork before scaling it perfectly onto an organically shaped charm. I love incorporating hand-drawn artwork into jewellery because it preserves memories in such a meaningful and wearable way.

The final charm was based on a drawing of three small fish created by the client herself. To create this piece, I carefully cut out the silhouette of the design before refining the edges and hand-finishing the surface. The textured finish and sculptural shape worked beautifully within the overall statement style while still preserving the authenticity of the original drawing.
