Custom To You

What does a bespoke wedding ring involve?

A bespoke wedding ring is designed with you and made to order, rather than picked from a tray. You choose the metal, the width, the shape of the band and any stones, and we make the ring to suit you.

Your ring is made by hand in our workshop at The Pantiles, so the person who designs it is the person who makes it. You can talk through every choice with Gavin, who trained in Hatton Garden and has over 20 years at the bench, and with Lorraine, who is a GIA certified gemmologist.

Most couples come in with a rough idea and a few photos. That is plenty to start. We help you shape it into something you will be happy to wear every day. If you would like to understand the wider design process first, see how our bespoke commissions work

The Perfect Match

Can a wedding ring be shaped to fit my engagement ring?

Yes. We can shape your wedding ring to follow the exact line of your engagement ring, so the two sit flush with no gap between them.

This is known as a fitted or shaped band. A plain straight band often leaves a gap next to rings with a raised stone, such as a solitaire, an oval, a pear or a halo design. A fitted band curves or notches around the setting so the pair look like one piece.

We design the shape using CAD, which means computer-aided design, and we often work from your engagement ring itself to get the fit right. Because everything is made onsite, we can check the two rings together before yours is finished. If your engagement ring was made with us, we already have your design on file, so the match is exact.

Metals & profiles

Which metal and profile should I choose?

The right metal and profile come down to how the ring looks, how it feels, and how hard you are on your hands. Here is a plain guide to the main choices.

Platinum

naturally white, dense and hard-wearing. A popular choice for a ring worn daily.

18ct gold

a richer gold colour with a higher gold content. Available in yellow, white and rose.

14ct gold

a good middle ground between 18ct and 9ct, balancing gold content with a lower cost.

9ct gold

a more affordable option that stands up well to daily wear.

Palladium

a white metal that is lighter than platinum and good value.

Court

rounded on the inside and outside, which makes it comfortable to wear. Often called comfort fit.

D-shape

flat on the inside and rounded on the outside.

Flat

flat on both faces for a more modern look.

White gold can be finished with rhodium plating to keep it bright, which we can refresh for you over time.

How much do wedding rings cost?

In the UK, couples typically spend somewhere between £500 and £5,000 on their wedding rings, with plain bands at the lower end and diamond-set or platinum rings higher up. Our bespoke wedding rings start from around £1,000.

The final price depends on a few things: the metal you choose, the width and weight of the band, whether you add diamonds, and whether the ring is shaped to fit your engagement ring. We always give you a clear price before any work begins.

Bespoke does not have to mean expensive. Because we make your ring ourselves, there is no middleman, and we work to your budget rather than against it. You can also spread the cost with interest-free finance over up to 24 months.

How much do wedding rings cost?

Most couples in the UK spend between £500 and £5,000 on their wedding rings. Plain bands sit at the lower end, while platinum and diamond-set rings cost more. Our bespoke wedding rings start from around £1,000, and we give you a firm price before any work starts.

How long does it take to make a wedding ring?

Most bespoke wedding rings are ready in 2 to 8 weeks. More detailed designs can take longer, so we recommend starting at least a couple of months before the wedding where you can. Tell us your date and we will be honest about what is possible.

Do wedding rings have to match each other or the engagement ring?

No. Many couples choose different metals or styles for their own rings. If you do want a matched look, it helps to keep wear in mind, as a harder metal worn next to a softer one can wear the softer ring over time. We will talk you through it.

Can I use my own gold to make a wedding ring?

Yes. We can melt down old or inherited gold and use it in your new ring, which keeps something of the original piece. This is part of how we reuse your own gold in a new design.

Do wedding rings have to be hallmarked in the UK?

Yes. Under the Hallmarking Act 1973, gold, platinum and palladium items over a set weight must be hallmarked before they are sold. You can read about the marks on the Goldsmiths' Company site. We have every ring hallmarked as part of the process.

What is the difference between a wedding ring and an eternity ring?

A wedding ring is exchanged during the wedding. It is traditionally a plain or simple band, though more couples are now choosing an eternity ring or a diamond set band for this moment too. So the choice comes down to plain or stone set. We make both.
