Frequently Asked Questions

Whether you are thinking about a bespoke engagement ring, considering remodelling an inherited piece, or simply curious about how we work, these are the questions our clients ask most often. Every piece we create is made by hand in our workshop at The Pantiles in Tunbridge Wells, and every conversation starts with a free, no-obligation consultation. If your question is not covered here, call us on 01892 458042 or book an appointment.

Pricing and Budget

Bespoke engagement rings start from around £2,000. The final price depends on the type of metal, the choice of diamond or gemstone, and the complexity of the design. Because we make everything in our own workshop and source stones directly, a bespoke ring is often more affordable than buying off the shelf. There are no middlemen adding to the cost, and we work with your budget to find the right combination. If you would like to explore your options, we offer free bespoke consultations at The Pantiles or via video call.

Wedding bands start from around £1,000. A plain gold or platinum band sits at the lower end of that range, while diamond-set, shaped, or more detailed designs will cost more. Every wedding band we make is crafted to sit perfectly alongside your engagement ring, and Lorraine or Gavin will advise on profiles, widths, and metals during your appointment.

Yes. We offer 0% APR finance for up to 24 months, allowing you to spread the cost of your jewellery with no interest charges. Finance is available on bespoke commissions, wedding bands, and other services. Full details are on our finance page.

A jewellery valuation costs between £85 and £150, depending on the number of items. Valuations are carried out by Lorraine, our GIA certified gemmologist (Gemological Institute of America), and you receive a detailed written report suitable for insurance purposes. You can book a valuation appointment at The Pantiles.

The Bespoke Process

You meet with Gavin or Lorraine, either face-to-face at our Pantiles showroom or via video call. Together you will discuss your ideas, your budget, and your timeline. There is no need to prepare anything in advance, though you are welcome to bring photos, sketches, or inherited pieces if you have them. Consultations are completely free and carry no obligation. You can book an appointment here.

Not at all. Many of our clients arrive with only a rough idea, and some have no idea where to start. That is exactly what the consultation is for. Gavin and Lorraine will talk you through the options, show you examples of previous work, and help you shape your ideas into a design that suits your taste and budget. The process is collaborative from the very beginning.

Most bespoke pieces take between 2 and 8 weeks from approved design to finished ring. More complex commissions, or pieces that require sourcing a specific stone, can take up to 6 months. The timeline depends on design complexity, stone availability, and any changes made during the process. If you have a deadline such as a proposal date or wedding, let us know at your first appointment and we will plan around it. We have written a detailed guide to bespoke engagement ring timelines if you would like to read more.

Yes. We use CAD (computer-aided design) to create a 3D render of your piece before any metalwork begins. You can see exactly how the finished ring will look, request changes, and approve the design before Gavin starts crafting it. This step removes the uncertainty of commissioning something you cannot see in advance.

Diamonds and Gemstones

Both are real diamonds with the same chemical structure, hardness, and visual appearance. Natural diamonds formed over billions of years deep underground. Lab-grown diamonds are created in controlled laboratory conditions using advanced technology. The main practical difference is price: a lab-grown diamond typically costs significantly less than a natural diamond of the same size and quality. The choice comes down to personal preference and budget. We work with both, and Lorraine will guide you through the options. Our natural vs lab-grown diamond page covers this in more detail.

Yes. You can select from loose natural or lab-grown diamonds that we source to your specifications, or you can bring your own stones. All diamonds we supply are independently certified by GIA (Gemological Institute of America) or IGI (International Gemological Institute). Lorraine, our GIA certified gemmologist, personally assesses every stone that goes into a commission.

Yes. All natural diamonds are sourced from suppliers who comply with the Kimberley Process, which exists to prevent conflict diamonds from entering the supply chain. Lab-grown diamonds are also available as an ethical alternative with a lower environmental footprint. Responsible sourcing is a standard part of every commission we undertake.

Repairs and Remodelling

Yes. Jewellery remodelling is one of our specialities, and prices start from around £500. We can repurpose your existing gold, platinum, diamonds, and gemstones into a completely new design that suits your style. Many of our remodelling clients are surprised to learn this is even possible, so if you have inherited or unworn pieces sitting in a drawer, they are almost certainly worth bringing in. Any materials we do not use are returned to you. Read more about our jewellery remodelling service.

We carry out ring resizing, stone replacement, claw re-tipping, chain repairs, soldering, rhodium plating, polishing, and full restoration. All repairs are completed by Gavin or Lorraine in our onsite workshop at The Pantiles. For simpler jobs, repairs can sometimes be done while you wait. You can find full details on our jewellery repair page.
