Trio of Sapphire Ring in 9ct Yellow Gold, Size J

Three sapphires from three different parts of the world sit side by side across the top of this ring, set in 9ct high polished yellow gold.

The blue stone is a Ceylon sapphire from Sri Lanka, the pink is from Madagascar, and the green comes from Montana in the United States. Sapphires occur naturally in far more colours than blue, and the colour depends on the trace elements present when the stone formed, which is why stones from different regions look so different from one another.

All three here are 4mm and brilliant cut, the same faceting pattern used on round diamonds, which is what gives them their brightness.

The ring carries the Platinum Jubilee commemorative hallmark, applied by the assay office during 2022 only. That mark cannot be added to any piece made after that year, so the rings carrying it are a fixed and finite group.

A row of three stones sits a little higher on the finger than a plain band, so it wears well on its own or alongside a slim band. Sapphire is a hard stone and stands up to daily wear, though as with any set stone it is worth taking off for gardening or the gym.

This one is a size J and is ready to ship, with free UK delivery. We made it in our own workshop at The Pantiles in Royal Tunbridge Wells, Kent, where Gavin sets every stone by hand.
