On a full eternity ring that matters more than on most designs, because any variation shows up immediately when the stones sit in a continuous line with nothing to break it up.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eCalibrated stones sit level and evenly spaced the whole way round.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThey are grain set, which means small beads of metal are raised from the surface with a hand tool and pushed over the edge of each stone to hold it. There are no claws standing proud, so the surface stays smooth and the row reads as an unbroken line of diamond with very little metal showing between the stones.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIt is slower work than claw setting and it is done by hand at the bench.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eChoose 18ct yellow gold, 18ct white gold, 18ct rose gold, platinum or palladium, hallmarked so the metal content is independently verified.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003ePalladium is worth a word, as it is less familiar than the others. It is a precious metal in the platinum family, naturally white so it never needs plating, and noticeably lighter on the finger than platinum, which some people prefer and others do not. It has been compulsorily hallmarked in the UK since 2010.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOne thing worth knowing before you choose a full eternity ring: because the stones go all the way round, it cannot be resized later in the way a half eternity can.
